The Chernobyl museum gives an amazing insight into the tragic disaster of April 26th, 1986. Reactor number 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded, putting tons of radioactive material into the environment. Chernobyl is situated 100km north of Kiev. Even though Chernobyl was a catastrophic disaster, the radiation levels to be found now in Kiev city, are not much higher than any other European city (about +2mr to 4mr outside). There are organisations that do tours of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, entering the exclusion zone to view the reactor sarcophagus. Perhaps it is a good idea to visit the Chernobyl museum first, if thinking of going. People have been known to want to visit the nuclear power plant, but after visiting the Chernobyl museum they changed their minds. | ||||||
